Activities beyond the current status of stay
When a foreigner wants to maintain his/her current status of staying and carry out activities beyond the current status of stay, the foreigner shall receive permission for activities beyond the current status of stay in advance.
If the activity beyond the current visa status became main purpose of stay in Korea, the foreigner shall issue new visa from Korean embassy and consulates overseas or need to get permission for change of status of stay.
General Principles
The single visa holder who might stay in Korea less than 90 days is not permitted to carry out activities beyond the current visa status.
If the foreigner's working hour is longer or salary is higher than the original working place, activities beyond the current visa status is not permitted.
If conditions of stay are not good due to several working places or it is admitted against national interests, activities beyond the current status of stay are not permitted.
The foreigner wants to learn Korean at the foreign institute of Colleges or receive instructions from specialists as to traditional culture as well as arts, permission for activities beyond the current status of stay is not asked.
Application Period for Permission of activities beyond the current status of stay
A foreigner has to receive new permission for activities beyond the current status of stay to the Immigration Office under the jurisdiction before he or she enters into activities beyond the current status of stay.
How to apply for permission for activities beyond the current status of stay
Principal or principal’s agent shall prepare the required documents (See the documents by the status) to the Immigration Office under the jurisdiction

- A foreign student status(D-2) wants to get a part-time job(S-3)
- A Religious works status(D-6) wants to give a lecture(E-1) to a university or college

Judgment standard of permissions for engage in activities beyond the current visa
▪ For domestic employment of families members by foreign public officials in Korea, the application of permissions for engage in activities beyond the current status of stay is possible limited to foreigners who got the recommendation from the Minister of foreign affairs and trade (an official in Fees of legation in Korea) according to principle of reciprocity.
