3) Alternative Housing Options

Students preferring not to stay in a dormitory have several options to choose from.

Hasukjib
There are many families living around the campus renting one of their empty rooms out for students. Usually this kind of accommodations will provide the student with two meals a day (breakfast and dinner). Prices range from 350,000 – 600,000Won/month.
It will be difficult to find a Hasukjib right before the start of the semester. Therefore you should arrive earlier in order to find this kind of accommodation.

One-Room
You can also find many houses around the university which are rented out to students. It is one single room, which includes a small cooking corner, bathroom, and air conditioner. Laundry facilities may or may not be included. Internet and cable TV connection is usually provided, but for that service you will need to pay extra. One-Rooms tend to be expensive the closer they are located to the university. They also require the student to pay a deposit of 5,000,000 – 10,000,000 Won, which you will get back when moving out. Additionally the monthly rent will cost about 300,000 – 600,000 Won depending on how much deposit you pay (the more deposit you pay the less the monthly rent will be).
It will be difficult to find a One-Room right before the start of the semester. Therefore you should arrive earlier in order to find this kind of accommodation.

Koshiwon
Koshiwons are houses with many small rooms renting out for students whose main focus is only studying. The space is very limited and usually is just a sleeping area with a small table. Washrooms are shared. Usually such places not even have a window. Koshiwons are regularly designed for students studying in the library all day and they only come back to their Koshiwon for sleeping. Prices range from 200,000 – 250.000 Won per month.
It will be difficult to find a Koshiwon right before the start of the semester. Therefore you should arrive earlier in order to find this kind of accommodation.

Homestay
The International Office generally does not organize Homestays. However, you can do it by looking for some options in the internet or consult with your travel agency in your home country before arrival..
