Analysis Laboratory
Organic Analysis Laboratory
Due to the importance of chemical structure in understanding characteristics of materials, the analysis of organic compounds is essential to define characteristics of organic materials. The Organic Analysis Lab is well-equipped with collecting information required for the analysis of chemical structure of organic compounds.
Major activities
- Qualitative and quantitative analysis of organic chemicals
- Analysis of chemical structure of organic molecules
- Analysis of chemical structure to develop a new organic material
- Structural analysis of naturally extracted materials
- Molecular weight analysis
- Analysis of odor-causing agents
- Qualitative and quantitative analysis of fragrance compounds used in various industries, including food, textile and chemical industry.
- Development of quality management techniques and analysis methods for ingredients and finished products
Inorganic Analysis Laboratory
The inorganic analysis lab with an inductive coupled plasma-mass spectrometer and atomic absorption spectroscopy, performs quantitative analysis of heavy metals in samples used in the areas of environment and chemistry (down to ppm and ppt levels). The lab performs XRD, a X-ray analysis, to characterize the element and crystalline phase composition of samples.
Major activities
- Qualitative and quantitative analysis of heavy metals in environment samples
- Quantitative analysis of negative and positive ions
- Analysis of composition of inorganic samples
Micro Analysis Laboratory
The micro analysis lab analyzes microstructure of materials utilizing various information produced from the collision of the short wavelength of electron beams with objects. The Lab is equipped with the topnotch equipment including 2 transmission electron microscopes, 4 Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope/Energy Dispersive Systems, and 1 Electron Probe X-ray Microanalyzer to perform microstructure analysis required in physics, chemistry, basic science, information telecommunication, and life science. The Lab provides image analysis, crystal structure analysis, and chemical element analysis of various materials including nano-structure materials.
Major activities
- Observation of microstructure of materials
- Analysis of diffraction pattern of crystal-property materials
- Observation of particle shape and size of powder samples
- Observation of microstructure of high molecule weight samples
- Qualitative and quantitative microchemical analysis using the EDS/WDS system
- Observation of the cut cross section of materials
- Observation of surface patterns of samples
Surface Analysis Laboratory
The lab has an Atomic Force Microscope, which enables researchers to provide nano-scale surface analysis of semiconductor, metals and inorganic substances. The analysis includes a 3-D image of surface showing roughness, changes in volume, height of particles in a specific area.
Various measurements are possible depending on the usage and application of samples. The use of non-contact mode is more effective for soft samples such as high molecular and nano-tube since damaged surface of these samples makes an accurate inspection impossible.
Major activities
- 3-D inspection of the surface of materials
- Particle shape, size and height on the surface of materials
- Quantitative assessment of surface roughness
Physical Property Laboratory
The Lab specializes in thermal analysis using five different analytical systems. The thermal analysis involves measuring dielectric characteristics of materials that vary with temperatures, variations in the modulus of elasticity, volume variation and weight variations and quantifying them with duration of function, temperature, and frequency. The Lab is equipped with cutting-edge scientific equipment and software program to provide integrated thermal analysis.
Major activities
- Analysis of weight and enthalpy variations
- Analysis of variations in the modulus of elasticity due to temperature and frequency
- Analysis of thermal dielectric characteristics of materials
- Analysis of thermal expansion in response of input force
- Inspection of thermal stability and hardening process of materials
- Thermal analysis of semiconductor and electric/electronic materials
Radioisotope Laboratory
Radioisotope is widely used in pharmacy, life science, clinical research and even in the industrial sector. Given its potential danger, stringent safety criteria is strongly required to handle radioisotope, including radioactive waste management.
- Management of radioactive materials (procurement, storage, distribution and safety inspection)
- Management of employees involving radioactive handling
