SKKU Musical Group for Korean Wave in Prague

Students who dream of constructing creative musical world of their own gathered to spread their musical fever to the world. Mu-al is a student musical group started at SKKU. Sungkyun Webzine interviewed three student members: Kyo-hyun Jin, Ye-eun Kim and Kyung Lee.

How did Mu-al start?

We started Mu-al two years ago with friends from Visual Arts who love musicals. It started with only six close friends and it was never expected to become this active. In the beginning, we simply watched a musical together and discussed after the show what was good or not so good about it. Now we have more members from SKKU and other universities. We even have our own supporters!

Inspiration to perform in Prague

We conducted a project to visit Europe's musical providers (countries that are actively exporting musicals to Korea). We were selected as winners of The Star Earth Challenge Your Dream, hosted by the Korea Student Aid Foundation (KOSAF), so our trips and expenses were funded by KOSAF. We have selected two musicals to perform: one is Jack the Ripper and the other is Seopyeonje which is a Korean creative musical. Responses were great. More people than we expected stopped by and some stayed until the end of our performance and even when we were packing. Those people were enough for us to advertise Korean musicals and help us leap forward through the challenge.
