Subway
The subway is a convenient way to travel around Seoul. Subway trains run from 5:30AM to midnight in general with some differences according to the line. Subways connect major government offices and shopping centers. The subway system in Seoul has a total of 12 lines that are distinguishable by color or line number.
Subway Fare
The basic fare for the subway is 1000won. If you use a prepaid transportation card (Tmoney card) there is a small discount as is also the case on for the bus. This minimum charge also allows you to transfer using buses, the subway or a combination of both without any charge for up to 20 kilometers. An extra 100won is added for every 5km after 20km. There is also a monthly subway ticket that you can use 60 times within 30 days. For quickly getting to where you want to go, taking the subway is one of the best ways. Subway lines cover most of the metropolitan area.
Fortunately, both campuses of the University lie near subway stations. The Seoul Campus (Humanities and Social Sciences Campus) is located on line 4 (Blue Line): Hyehwa Station and is connected to the Campus by the shuttle bus. The Suwon Campus (Natural Sciences Campus) lies on line 1 (Suwon Direction), Sungkyunkwan Univ. Station. Refer to the metropolitan subway map below.
Shuttle Bus
The University provides students with public transportation service, which is a shuttle bus system from the designated subway station to each campus.

Seoul Campus (Humanities and Social Sciences)

Fare: 300won (in cash), 250won (by coupon)
Operating hours: During semester 07:00~23:00 and during vacation 07:0 ~19:00 No service on Sundays and holidays

Bus
There are two ways to pay the bus fare, by cash or transportation card. The regular bus fare is 1,000won and the Jwaseok bus costs from 1,600 to 1,800won. When you use a transportation card (T-money card) there is a small discount and transfer discount. If you pay in cash, you should prepare some small change. A 5,000won bill or larger is not recommended.
Bus-Subway Transfer discount
If you transfer from a bus to the subway or the other way round with your transportation card, you can get discount for your later rides. For instance, if youtransfer from the subway to a bus, your bus fare will not be charged again. The fare is calculated according to the distance you travel. However, a transfer is acknowledged only when the second ride is made within 30 minutes after getting off your first ride
Transportation card (T-money)
You can buy or charge a T-money card at a Subway ticket booth or any convenience store where you can see the T-money sign.
Card price : 2,500won to 8,000won
Recharge unit: You can charge as much as 90,000won (the minimum charge amount is 1000won)
If there is a problem with your card, you can get a refund of the amount of money you charged in the card, but otherwise the card is not refundable. You can get an instant refund of up to 20,000won from Family Mart or GS25 right away. If the amount of your card is more than 20,000won, it is refundable only at the headquarters of Korea Smart Card.
Regular Taxi
Basic fare differs according to region from 1,900won to 2,000won. When you use a taxi from 12:00AM to 4:00AM, an additional 20% charge will be added.
Mobeom (deluxe) Taxi
These taxis are Vehicles with at least 3,000cc engines, and are usually black. They are much more expensive than the regular taxis and the basic rate is 4,500won. For these taxi there is no surcharge from 12AM to 4AM.
Train
Train is the fastest form of public transportation in Korea other than airplane and it can take you to most of the country¡¯s major cities. There are three main kinds of train, KTX is the fastest and most expensive and is followed by Saemaeul and the Mugunghwa.
