SKKU held the 1st Korea-Japan Science Technology Innovation Forum in Tokyo

- Joint host with the Embassy of Korea in Japan, National Research Foundation of Korea, Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering

- SKKU President, “Establish a foundation for future-oriented joint prosperity through science technology interchange”

- Lectures and Discussions with the best scholars including Nobel Physiology/Medicine Prize Laureate Prof. Yoshinori Ohsumi


SKKU held the first Korea-Japan Science Technology Innovation Forum in Tokyo, Japan, on Nov. 25 (Thur).


The subtitle of this forum was “Innovation of Biotechnology for Prosperity and Sustainability of Humanity” in which representative private/government/industry scholars from Korea & Japan in the biotechnology field participated as speakers including the 2016 Nobel Physiology/Medicine Laureate Prof. Ohsumi Yoshinori.


The representative Korean speakers were: Je Kyung Sung (Head of the Mouse Phenotype Analysis Project), Inhee Muk (Head of the Dementia Overcoming Research and Development Project), Hyung Joon Cha (Head of the Bio-Material Research Center), Inho Jo (Head of the Pan-Ministerial Regenerative Medical Technology Development Project), and Seon-Young Kim (Head of the Life Research and Resource Information Center).


From SKKU, Prof. Seong-Gi Kim (IBS Brain Imaging Research Center Director) and Prof. Yong Ho Kim (SAINT) participated as speakers.


Hosted by the Embassy of Korea in Japan, SKKU’s SAINT co-hosted the event with the Japanese office of the Korea Research Foundation and the Japanese branch of the Korean Chemical Engineering Association, and Vice President of SAINT, Sungjoo Lee and Prof. Il Jeon participated in the event as the managing executives along with the directors of hosting institution.


The keynote speaker, Nobel Physiology/Nobel Prize Laureate, Professor Yoshinori Ohsumi said, “Korea and Japan are close neighbors, but despite the current political difficulties, we should overcome these relationships and continue to exchange research and technology.”

SKKU President Dong Ryeol Shin, said, “In order to stand firm as an institution representing humanity and Korea in the field of biotechnology, we are actively investing in the field of bio-biotechnology by establishing Korea's first industry-academic convergence model such as IMNEWRUN Bioscience, and CNS Disease Treatment Research Center. I hope this event will serve as an opportunity to establish the foundation for future-oriented joint prosperity through scientific and technological cooperation between Korea and Japan.”


The hosting institution SAINT Vice-President, Sungjoo Lee, said, “It is very meaningful to hold this forum as the host organization, and next year, we are preparing for the 2nd Korea-Japan Science and Technology Innovation Forum under the theme of strengthening technological cooperation in energy and climate change.”


The following personnel has participated as managing executives of this forum: SAINT Professors Il Jeon and Prof. So Yeon Kim, the Japanese branch of the Korean Chemical Engineering Association Prof. Ik Soo Kim (Shinshu University), Prof. Hyung Do Kim (Kyoto University), Dr. Yong Soo Jeong (LG), Prof. Chang Hee Lee (Kyoto University), Dr. Dong Wook Kim (Kyoto University), the Japanese office of the Korea Research Foundation Chief Moo Geun Lim, and the Embassy of Korea in Japan Science Officer Yeon Woong Jeong.
