SKKU’s Start-up Support Foundation has been finally selected for the role of the organizing institution for the 2023 Startup-centered University project, which is sponsored by The Ministry of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises and Startups.

As a result of being selected, our center will be granted the status of a primary agency for supporting the commercialization of start-up companies at various stages of development (preliminary, initial, and takeoff) for a maximum of five years (three years as the base period, with an optional two-year extension based on evaluation results).

SKKU will receive approximately 37.5 billion KRW in total funding (about 7.5 billion KRW per year) for the project period, which aims to create 9,500 jobs, achieve 2 trillion KRW in sales, and create a corporate value of at least 4 trillion KRW.

To provide customized support to start-up companies throughout their entire life cycle, Sungkyunkwan University has established a collaborative entrepreneurship support program with relevant institutions within the region and received 100 million KRW from the Gyeonggi Province and 50 million KRW from Suwon City each year.

We plan to expand the ▲ local entrepreneurship culture by promoting investment attraction, ▲ joint planning exhibitions for market entry, ▲ identification and linkage of distribution channels for demand companies, and ▲ supporting global market entry through various investment-enhancing programs such as basic education and competence diagnosis, tailored consulting services for enhancing core competencies, ▲ investment attraction consulting services through IR and demo days, and conducting local entrepreneurship promotion committees, global market forums, export consultations, and so on.

As a regional entrepreneurship-hub university, we plan to support various start-up programs developed by universities.

Start-up Support Foundation will closely collaborate with the Gyeonggi Province and Suwon City to ensure the success of the Startup-centered University project, and through supporting the commercialization of approximately 425 start-up companies over the next five years, we aim to create 9,500 jobs, raise 2 trillion KRW in sales, and create a corporate value of 4.25 trillion KRW.

Kyung hwan Kim, the head of the Start-up Support Foundation, stated that "We will lead the innovation of university infrastructure and local community and network to achieve the vision and goals of the Startup-centered University project, and by utilizing our accumulated entrepreneurship capacity, we will contribute to regional job creation and national wealth creation through promoting mutually beneficial innovation between universities and local institutions based on youth technology start-up nurturing."
