15th Asian Alumni Association Annual General Meeting Held in Singapore

The Sungkyunkwan University Alumni Association (President Kim Seong-jip) held the 15th Asian Alumni Association Annual General Meeting in Singapore, hosted by the Singapore Alumni Association (President Lee Pil-young), on Friday, October 25, at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel.


This event brought together over 150 participants, including representatives from international alumni chapters in the United States, Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Hong Kong, and the Philippines, as well as domestic chapters from Busan and Mokpo, and department-specific chapters such as Chinese Language and Civil Engineering. Around 50 alumni from the Singapore Alumni Association also joined the event.

- Asian Alumni Association: Kim Hyo-seop (President), Lee Pil-young (Singapore Alumni Association President), Choi Soo (Singapore International Alumni Preparatory Chair))

-University: Park Jae-wan (Chairman), Yoo Ji-beom (President), Joo Young-soo (Executive Director), and Choi Jae-boong (Vice President of Natural Sciences Campus)


The meeting, chaired by Kim Hyo-seop, included the unanimous election of Lee Pil-young, the Singapore Chapter President and host of this year’s meeting, as the next president of the Asian Alumni Association.


Following introductions led by Cha Dong-ok, a recognition ceremony honored Singapore Alumni Chapter members for their contributions to the event. Recipients of the Distinguished Service Awards from Singapore Alumni Chapter (10 members):

Lee Pil-young (President), Oh Min-kyu (Advisor), Yang Jong-jae (Advisor), Kim Jung-soo (Secretary General), Bae So-hee (President of the Women’s Alumni), Kim Seung-rae, Yang Seung-yong, Song Jae-joon, Kim Seong-hee, and Kim Jong-yoon.

The Singapore Alumni Chapter presented a donation on behalf of the alumni community to President Yoo Ji-beom as a contribution toward the university's development fund.


Kim Hyo-seop expressed appreciation to Lee Pil-young and the Singapore alumni for their efforts in hosting the event and emphasized his commitment to fostering regular communication among the Asian alumni chapters.


Lee Pil-young shared his honor in hosting and welcomed alumni from around the world, pledging to ensure the Singapore Chapter plays a meaningful role in the global alumni network.

Alumni Association President Kim Seong-jip thanked the Singapore Chapter for their hard work, noting that the gathering of over 150 alumni underscores the growing stature of the global alumni network. He affirmed ongoing support for alumni unity and collaboration.


Choi Bong-hoe, President of the North American Alumni Association, congratulated the Asian Alumni Association on a successful event and invited attendees to the North American Alumni General Meeting in Washington, D.C., next year, encouraging widespread interest and participation.


University President Yoo Ji-beom thanked the global alumni community, acknowledging their contributions to the university’s development as a globally recognized institution and pledged continued efforts to meet their expectations.


The event also included a Global Sungkyun Scholarship Foundation ceremony, where former Alumni Association President Lee Wan-keun awarded scholarships totaling 9 million KRW to six exchange students currently studying in Singapore. This foundation was established in January 2017, based on a proposal by the late 35th Alumni Association President Shin Yoon-ha, and a donation of 1 billion KRW; it currently holds a balance of approximately 3.09 billion KRW.

* Scholarship Recipients: Im Si-hyun (Electronics), Lee Si-yeon (Chemical Engineering), Min Jeong-won (Social Sciences), Baek Su-jin (Global Business), Im Hyeong-ju (Chemistry), and Lee Se-jin (Asian Studies).


The next Asian Alumni Association General Meeting is scheduled for 2026 in Hong Kong. Participants wrapped up the event, concluding with a 3-day program and looking forward to next year’s North American Alumni Association meeting in Washington, D.C.
