8th Bug Bounty Competition Awards Ceremony Held

The Information and Communications Office (Director Choi Hyung-ki) hosted the 8th Bug Bounty Competition Awards Ceremony on November 26 at the Samsung Library, Natural Sciences Campus.
A Bug Bounty is a competition where participants are rewarded for identifying and reporting security vulnerabilities in products or services. Leading global companies such as Samsung Electronics, Google, Microsoft, and Meta actively run similar programs. These competitions attract ethical hackers, also known as “white-hat hackers,” who aim to enhance their reputation and earn financial rewards.
Unlike standard hacking competitions, Bug Bounty competitions focus on identifying vulnerabilities in real-world IT services and systems. This unique aspect involves greater risks and challenges, requiring well-prepared organizations with advanced security capabilities. Since becoming the first university in Korea to launch such a competition in 2015, the university has successfully hosted the event eight times.
An official from the Information and Communications Office remarked, “This competition demonstrates our bold commitment to safeguarding the university’s information assets and reflects our effort to foster a culture of responsibility in cybersecurity within educational institutions.”
The 8th competition was held from November 4 (Monday) to November 10 (Sunday), achieving significant success. During this period, numerous security vulnerabilities were identified and addressed, enhancing the university’s overall cybersecurity framework.
With growing societal interest in information security, this year’s competition received a higher number of high-quality reports compared to previous years. Reports were meticulously reviewed by an expert panel comprising internal and external professionals, and winners were selected as follows:
