Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) has been recognized as the top private university in Korea for the second consecutive year, with 10 faculty members named in the 2024 Highly Cited Researchers (HCR) list by Clarivate.

The HCR designation identifies researchers whose papers rank in the top 1% of citations by field, a global standard recognizing the quality and impact of research achievements.

This year’s HCR list includes 6,886 researchers from 59 countries and over 1,200 institutions. In Korea, a total of 75 researchers across 12 fields were named. SKKU ranked second among Korean universities and first among private institutions, with 10 researchers listed, following △Seoul National University (12 researchers), and ahead of △UNIST (8), △Hanyang University (6), △Yonsei University (5), and △Korea University (5).

The SKKU researchers recognized in 2024 include: △Nam-Gyu Park (Materials Science, 8th consecutive year) △Young-Hee Lee (Cross-Field, 7th consecutive year) △Myoung-Joo An (Clinical Medicine, 6th consecutive year) △Geun-Chil Park (Clinical Medicine, 5th consecutive year) △Jin-Wook Lee (Cross-Field, 4th consecutive year) △Muhammad Khan (Computer Science, 4th consecutive year) △Ho-Young Lim (Cross-Field, 3rd consecutive year) △Dae-Sik Kim (Cross-Field, previously listed in 2020–2021) △Hyun-Seok Shin (Cross-Field, newly listed) △Jeong-Ho Kim (Cross-Field, newly listed).

Notably, Prof. Nam-Gyu Park, renowned for developing the first stable perovskite solar cell and advancing its commercialization, has been appointed as SKKU’s first distinguished chair professor. Prof. Young-Hee Lee has demonstrated exceptional research capacity, being named an HCR in the Cross-Field category for seven consecutive years.

Prof. Hyun-Seok Shin, newly named an HCR, is currently leading the recently established Center for Integrated Nanostructure Physics (CINAP). Additionally, Prof. Jeong-Ho Kim, an alumnus of SKKU, underscores the university's continued research ecosystem growth.

President Yoo Ji-Beom stated, “SKKU’s research achievements stem from innovative and ambitious academic activities, reflecting our commitment to addressing humanity’s challenges and societal needs. We will continue to strengthen our global research impact and enhance our standing as a leading research-focused university.”
