Department of Chemistry Successfully Holds the 1st Hachan Hong Lectureship Award Ceremony
On March 5, 2025, the Department of Chemistry (Chair: Prof. Hyo-Young Lee) successfully hosted the 1st Hachan Hong Lectureship Award Ceremony.
The Hachan Hong Lectureship was established through a generous donation of 100 million KRW from Mr. Hachan Hong, an alumnus of the Class of 1958, in July 2022. This academic lecture and award program honors distinguished scientists who have made significant contributions to academic advancement through their research. The recipient of the award also delivers a lecture sharing their research achievements.
For the inaugural Hachan Hong Lectureship, Professor Ediger from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA, was selected as the awardee. Professor Ediger is a world-renowned researcher in the field of soft materials and glass transition, and his work has significantly contributed to a deeper molecular-level understanding of the dynamic behavior of polymers.
The ceremony was attended by Mr. Hachan Hong, faculty members, and graduate students from the Department of Chemistry. During the event, Mr. Hong personally presented the award to Professor Ediger, celebrating his outstanding contributions.

Following the award presentation, Professor Ediger delivered a lecture titled "Expanding Our Vision of Molecular Glasses: Physical Vapor Deposition Prepares Ultrastable and Anisotropic Materials." The lecture provided attendees with valuable insights into the latest research trends in the field, fostering in-depth academic discussions.
Moving forward, our university aims to continue promoting academic exchange and strengthening global research networks through the Hachan Hong Lectureship.
