The Office of International Affairs (Vice President Minhyo Cho) hosted the “SKKU Malaysian Alumni Reunion” on Friday, June 20, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, together with SKKU alumni residing in Malaysia.

This Global Alumni Reunion marked the first-ever international alumni gathering organized to build SKKU’s foreign alumni network. The event was a great success, with around 50 Malaysian alumni in attendance.

The event began with a welcome speech by VP Minhyo Cho, followed by a university overview, the appointment of distinguished alumni as SKKU Global Ambassadors, dinner, and a group photo session.

Most Malaysian alumni are former government scholarship recipients who have gone on to make significant contributions to their country’s development across various sectors.

Indeed, many of them are currently working at Korean companies such as Samsung and SK, as well as multinational corporations including Accenture, Motorola, Maybank, and Oracle, actively serving as global talent.

A highlight of the event was the appointment of Dr. Mohd Nizam Husen as an SKKU Global Ambassador. Dr. Nizam earned his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from SKKU and currently serves as the Dean of MIIT (Malaysia Institute of Information Technology) at the University of Kuala Lumpur. He has played a major role in nurturing talent in Malaysia and fostering academic exchange between Korea and Malaysia.

As SKKU’s first Global Ambassador, Dr. Nizam stated, “It is a great honor to be appointed as a global ambassador for my alma mater. I will do my best to enhance SKKU’s reputation in Malaysia and encourage more outstanding Malaysian students to pursue their studies at SKKU.”

Since 2008, SKKU has produced approximately 280 Malaysian graduates, most of whom majored in engineering and information technology, contributing to the development of science and technology.

VP Minhyo Cho remarked, “It is a great pleasure and honor to meet our Malaysian alumni in person. The Office of International Affairs will continue to actively support opportunities for our international alumni to connect and engage through global alumni reunions.”

During this visit, the International Student Services Team from the Office of International Affairs also visited the University of Kuala Lumpur, which operates a MARA scholarship program aimed at nurturing Malaysian government scholars, to discuss future cooperation.

At the university, SKKU held an admissions information session, sharing insights from alumni and current students, making it a meaningful occasion to promote SKKU.
