From June 24 to 26, Sungkyunkwan University served as the lead organizer of Quantum Korea 2025, held at the aT Center in Seoul. As Korea’s largest-scale quantum science and technology event, the program drew an impressive 5,765 visitors, reflecting the public’s growing interest in quantum technology.
The event celebrated the 100th anniversary of quantum mechanics and the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ) as designated by the UN. Under the theme, “100 Years of Quantum: Awakening Industry,” the event explored the vast potential of quantum science and technology—from theoretical foundations to industrial applications and commercialization.
As the main organizing institution, SKKU played a leading role in planning and operating interactive exhibitions and public lectures, promoting broader awareness and understanding of quantum technology. The exhibition showcased core components and technologies behind quantum computers, with intuitive visual explanations that resonated well with the general audience.

The Department of Quantum Information Engineering at SKKU—Korea’s first undergraduate program dedicated to quantum studies—also operated a booth. The department introduced its curriculum, faculty, research labs, and ongoing quantum-related research, solidifying its reputation as a hub for cultivating future quantum talent.

A major highlight on the final day, June 26, was a public lecture by Professor Yeonuk Jung, Director of SKKU’s Quantum Information Research Support Center and Chair of the Department of Quantum Information Engineering. He appeared on the well-known lecture platform "15 Minutes to Change the World (Sebasi)", delivering a talk titled “Quantum Mechanics and the Essence of Life Are the Same!”, capturing public imagination by connecting complex science with everyday life.
The full video of this lecture will be uploaded on July 23 to the Sebasi YouTube channel and the Quantum Korea YouTube channel, and will be broadcast on CBS TV on August 6 (Tue) at 17:30, with a rerun scheduled for August 11 at 14:00.
SKKU plans to leverage the success of this event to further advance the popularization and industrialization of quantum technologies, while expanding international cooperation and educational infrastructure to nurture the next generation of quantum experts.
