Professor Ahn Jungho of the Department of Biophysics Wins “Research Innovation Award” from the Korean BioChip Society

Professor Ahn Jungho of the Department of Biophysics received the “Research Innovation Award” at the 20th Anniversary Fall Conference of the Korean BioChip Society in 2025. This award is presented to researchers within seven years of obtaining their doctoral degree in recognition of achievements that have demonstrated high impact through the development of new technologies, the application of creative ideas, and interdisciplinary convergence research. The prize money amounts to KRW 1,000,000.

The Korean BioChip Society is a leading academic organization in Korea that aims to advance the academic development and industrial application of biochip technologies based on core source technologies in advanced life convergence sciences, including biochips, bio-MEMS, biosensors, nano-convergence, and healthcare research. Researchers and experts from diverse disciplines such as life sciences, medicine, and engineering participate in the Society. Marking its 20th anniversary this year, the Society is operating a variety of programs to promote technology sharing among domestic researchers, international collaboration, and industry linkage.

As a physician-scientist, Professor Ahn Jungho has been dedicated to the development of next-generation translational biomedical platforms that bridge basic research and clinical medicine since joining SKKU in 2024. His research integrates organ-on-a-chip technology, tissue engineering, 3D printing, and 3D bioprinting, with the goal of deriving new insights and scientific understanding of human physiology and disease mechanisms. Recently, he developed a patient-specific endometrium-on-a-chip platform to address infertility, and based on this achievement, he has expanded his research scope to include the implementation of patient-tailored tumor microenvironments and the development of preclinical disease models, actively conducting precision biomedical research. Over the past five years, Professor Ahn has published 18 papers in SCI-indexed journals. Notably, during the past three years, he has published papers in leading journals such as Nature Communications and Advanced Functional Materials, which rank within the top 7 percent and 5 percent of their respective fields.
