On February 26 (Thu), Sungkyunkwan University held the 2026 Entrance Ceremony at Suseong Hall on the Natural Sciences Campus in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do, with 4,358 freshmen in attendance.

Prior to the ceremony, President Ji Beom Yoo and members of the Board of Deans conducted the Goyurae rite (告由禮) at the Daeseongjeon Hall of Sungkyunkwan in Jongno-gu, Seoul, to formally report the admission of the new students, before attending the main event held at the Natural Sciences Campus.
* Goyurae (告由禮): A unique Sungkyunkwan University ceremonial rite in which the University reports major events—such as entrance ceremonies, graduations, or the completion of new buildings—to the Confucian shrine.

In his welcoming address, President Ji Beom Yoo expressed his encouragement for the freshmen, stating, “I hope you will be reborn as true members of the Sungkyunkwan community who embody the founding philosophy of cultivating oneself and governing others, and who realize the principles of benevolence, righteousness, propriety, and wisdom.” He added, “May your university life at Sungkyunkwan University become a meaningful journey in which you learn how to become agents of change.”

Kim Sungjip, President of the Alumni Association, remarked, “The 290,000 alumni who are playing pivotal roles across all sectors of our society will serve as a strong support for you. The Alumni Association will always support you as we watch your growth and development,” expressing his expectations for the freshmen’s new beginning.

During the ceremony, congratulatory messages to the freshmen were screened from distinguished alumni active in various sectors of society—including Kim Hyun-kyum, Chairman of PanStar Group (Civil Engineering, Class of ’81), and Kim Jongwook, President of the Korean Bar Association (Systems Management Engineering, Class of ’98)—as well as from celebrity students and a representative of freshmen parents.

At the “Launching Paper Airplanes,” a signature event of Sungkyunkwan University’s entrance ceremony, Park Yoonho (Department of Theatre, actor) and Kim Namjoo (Department of Theatre, singer) participated in a special moment to cheer on the future of the new students together.
