Hosting a WAVE Global Collaborative Lecture
with Professor Robert Webb of UVA

The WAVE (Worldwide Alliance for Virtual Exchange) Global Collaborative Lecture is an international cooperative education program in which SKKU faculty and faculty from renowned overseas universities participate together. It is operated to expand students’ global learning experiences and enhance the international standard of education.
In the Financial Economics WAVE Global Collaborative Lecture conducted by the Global Finance Research Center (Director: Professor Doo Jin Ryu) of the Department of Economics at SKKU, Professor Robert Webb of the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia (UVA) will be invited to deliver a special lecture on the theme of “Information and Markets.” This lecture will examine how market prices reflect and transmit information, and how markets test various policies, hypotheses, and economic narratives. Starting from the perspective that “Prices are signals,” Professor Webb will explain, through a range of real-world cases, that prices in financial markets are more than mere numbers; they are concentrated signals of information, expectations, and risk. Covering a wide range of topics—including financial market responses to changes in international affairs, the power of information shown by prediction markets and betting markets, and debates over high-frequency trading and market integrity—the lecture will offer a multidimensional examination of the relationships among information and markets, and prices and expectations.
Professor Robert Webb earned his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, where he studied under Nobel Prize-winning economists Eugene Fama and Myron Scholes. He also served for 24 years as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Futures Markets, one of the world’s leading academic journals in the field of derivatives. Having worked at the White House, the World Bank, and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), he has accumulated broad insight not only into academia but also into financial practice and economic policy. This special lecture is expected to provide a new perspective on understanding global financial markets.
