Research Institute of Economics from College of Economics held the On/Off-Line academic seminar simultaneously at 4:30 p.m. on June 19 (Fri) at the Dasan Hall of Economics. The topic of the seminar was "Stealth Virus(COVID-19) Attack on Economy and Labor Market." Prof. Joon Mo Cho conducted the seminar and about 10 professors and graduate students from the College of Economics and the College of Global Economics were participated.

In this seminar, virus-economic data were analyzed that the damage to the economy and labor market was enormous due to COVID-19's asymptomatic infection (Stealth function), easy-to-mutate RNA structure, low fatality rate, and high transmission rate compared to Corona-related viruses such as SARS and MERS.

It also explained the reason why a profit-making mechanism in which the development of medicines and vaccines for COVID-19 was slow. In relation to jobs, it revealed that the economically inactive population, especially those discouraged workers in their 20s and 30s, has increased rapidly compared to the Influenza A virus, and suggested how to improve policies and systems.

Even in the situation of COVID-19, where face-to-face contact is very limited, the institute’s efforts to promote communication were outstanding through conducting the seminar On/Off-Line. It is also expected that effective communication will be carried out in the future by utilizing the communication platform established this time, and innovation to find various Contact Solutions will continue in this ‘uncontact’ situation.
