SKKU held the “2019 Eurasia Sungkyun Korean Writing Contest” on September 6th at the Lotte City Hotel in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

SKKU has been hosting the Korean Writing Contest to spread the excellence and unique value of Korean language system “hangul” over the past 10 years. This contest is well-known for being the gateway to study in Korea.

59 students from 24 universities in 8 different countries (Uzbekistan, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Austria, Karakalpakstan, Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan and Turkey) competed their Korean writing skills.

The chairman of the contest said, “There is a verse in BTS’s song that goes ‘I want something stronger’. I believe all of you improved while preparing for this contest. I hope everyone unfolds their talents today.”

The topic of the writing contest was “If”. Prof. Hyunsoon PARK, the Vice-President of International Affairs said, “We have chosen the topic because it can bring out many stories. We are looking to seeing creativity and originality in students' writings.”



The 1st prize went to student Shahnoza from Uzbekistan. The foreman of the jury said, “The student wrote a story relevant to the topic with a logical flow. Student made use of metaphors and has exhibited excellent Korean skills.”

The top 3 winners of the contest are exempted from 2-year tuition fee at Sungkyunkwan University when they apply forthe graduate program. They also receive Samsung Tablet PC and Galaxy watch as a prize.

A special lecture by the previous winner of the Korean writing contest student Anbar (currently enrolled in SKKU Graduate school of Political Science) was made the day before the event. 




The event was filmed by KBS “3 days Documentary” team and it will be on air at October 11th.
