Shinsung E&G - SKKU Opened Research Center of Industrial AI Solutions


- A new industry-academic cooperation model that simultaneously conducts research and education in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution
 - Organize four teams where researchers, students, and professors are studying/researching to solve problems
- Solutions of research-development-commercial ecosystem and industrial AI technologies based on field data




SKKU signed a business agreement with Shinsung E&G (Chairman Lee Wan-geun) for industrial-academic cooperation in a new model that simultaneously conducts research and development and education in the era of the fourth industrial revolution, and held the opening ceremony of the "Shinsung E&G – SKKU Research Center of Industrial AI Solutions” on June 30 (Tue).


Dong Ryeol Shin (President of SKKU), Sung Jin Song (Vice-President of SKKU), Jun Young Lee (Dean, College of Engineering), Geun Tae Jo (Dean, Department of Industrial Engineering), Sang Do Noh (Director of the center), Wan Geun Lee (Chairman of Shinsung E&G), Ji Sun Lee (CEO), Dong Hoon Oh (Director), Jung Sun Lee (CEO of Shinsung CS), Yeon Jung Kim (Executive Managing Director), and other professors attended the agreement ceremony.


SKKU and Shinsung E&G are promoting team-level cooperation between corporate employees and school members, focusing on the "Shinsung E&G – SKKU Research Center of Industrial AI Solutions," and operating combined studying/researching programs focusing on solving problems in manufacturing site. To this end, five incumbent employees (manager Hong Gu Han, manager Dong Wook Lim, general manager Yang Joon Kim, deputy general manager Chang Deok Sohn, and manager Nam Geun Kim) will enter the graduate school's department of industrial engineering and organize 4 problem-solving teams with 18 students and 5 professors to conduct combined studying/researching programs. Through this, company solves real problems and educate professionals, and university gains opportunities to conduct practical study and research based on field’s data.


Our university and Shinsung E&G are currently working together to establish a high-power solar module process digitalization system for productivity innovation, develop AI-based worker digital twin system for safety precaution, develop a solution for controlling catalytic organic compounds removal equipment based on deep/reinforcement learning, and develop management system of smart-purchase using AI to solve problems in fields. They are also planning to expand the scope their study and field in the future.


President Dong Ryeol Shin said, "We plan to solve problems in field through close industry-academic cooperation and successfully develop and train professionals for industrial AI technologies." In addition, he said "It will be a successful case of an industry-academic cooperation model that conducts research development and education that are suitable for the era of the fourth industrial revolution."


Chariman Wan Geun Lee said, “We will be active applying AI technology in all areas of corporate activities, including planning, sales, purchasing, research development, and production through the cooperation with SKKU, and establish the continuous industry-academic cooperation system to educate professionals who can pursue these innovations.”
