Graduate School of Education (Dean, Jaehyun Kim) received approval early this year from ‘New Project for Establishing Convergence Education of Artificial Intelligence’ led by the Ministry of Education. 35 current teachers were selected this July and with their participation, the ‘convergence education of artificial intelligence’ will be operated from the second semester of 2020. As software (SW) education is fully introduced to all elementary and middle schools this year, related education will be expanded in the future. Hence, it is urgent to train AI-specialized talents. The dean of graduate school of education, Jaehyun Kim, said “We decided to establish and operate a new major program, Convergence Education of Artificial Intelligence, at the Graduate School of Education. This program will train AI-specialized teachers who can implement AI education in the field in order to cultivate talented students who have possibility to lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution era. The Ministry of Education announced that they would select ‘Schools to Operate Convergence Education of Artificial Intelligence in 2020’ and would cultivate about 1,000 professionals through re-educating current teachers. Teachers who achieve the Master’s Degree of Education (Major in Convergence Education of Artificial Intelligence) will teach convergence education of AI. Additionally, the teachers who were recommended and selected by the metropolitan/province office of education are eligible to receive a financial support (about 50% of tuition fee, maximum 1,500,000 KRW).
