College of Information and Communication Engineering’s Research Team Led by Professor Ko
Won 1st and the 2nd places in the Grand Challenge
The research team (DASH Center, https://dash-lab.github.io) led by Professor Simon Sungil Woo (College of Computing) and the research team (IRIS center, http://iris.skku.edu) led by Professor Jonghwan Ko (College of Information and Communication Engineering) won the first and second places in the ‘2020 AI R&D Grande Challenge’ held by the Ministry of Science and ICT last July.
The research team of Professor Simon Sungil won the first place among dozes of participating team on the behavioral recognition track. And the research team of Professor Jonghwan Ko won the second place on the material recognition based on images following the award they won on the sound recognition last year, which recognized their team’s AI technical skill based on sound and image.
AI R&D Grand Challenge is a challenging and competitive R&D competition that competes by developing algorithms that address the challenging project and provides follow-up research funds to excellent teams. The 4th competition will be held as four stages by 2022 under the theme of “Address various regional problems by utilizing AI technology”. The winning team will receive the follow-up research funds of 200 million won by the end of this year and participate in the second stage of the competition in November.
