Signed MOU Between SKKU’s Hub Center for Composite Material Simultaneous Design and Deutsches Institut für Kautschuktechnologie

SKKU’s Hub Center for Composite Material Simultaneous Design (Director: Professor Jong-Hwan Suhr and Deutsches Institut für Kautschuktechnologie (DIK, Director: Ulrich Giese) signed a MOU with the aim of enhancing mutual understanding between two institutions and contributing to the development of academic and educational activities.

The DIK is the world’s leading research institute in elastic materials and runs about 80 research institutes and corporate consortium. Since its establishment in 1981, it has remarkable research capabilities on basic research and application of multi-disciplinary convergence such as synthesis, properties and processing technology of elastic material.

The main content of the agreement is to cooperate with each other for the development of academic and education, such as joint research in areas of common interest, exchange of professional personnel, and technical meetings. Through the agreement, the center plans to expand the internationalization capabilities and prepare a systematic program to contribute to the development of composite materials.

Prof. Jong-Hwan Suhr (Director), Prof. Sang-Won Lee, Prof. Sung-Min Kim, Prof. Tae-Il Kim, Prof. Hyung-Mo Jung, Prof. Yoon-Chul Kim and other key actors attended the signing ceremony.

In November 2020, a Ph.D. student at the center (Bum-Yong Yoon) conducted a joint research on convergence technology, including friction/wearing of elastic composite materials and fatigue life prediction, and plans to conduct exchange visit every year.

Director Jong-Hwan Suhr said “We will share the capabilities of our center and the accumulated experience of the DIK, and establish a foothold for the development of composite materials.”
