Online Mutual Honor Ph. D. Conferment Ceremony of both University Presidents
On May 2nd, SKKU and Taiwan Chengchi University held online mutual honor Ph. D. conferment ceremony forpresidents of each university.
In this online degree conferment ceremony,held in SKKU 600 years anniversary hall, conference room 1 and Taiwan NationalChengchi University Administration hall, conference room 1, both presidents(SKKU Dong Ryeol Shin Taiwan National Chengchi University Ming Cheng, Kuo) wereawarded honor Education Ph. D. degree, conferred by each other’s university.
In this online degree conferment ceremony,held in SKKU 600 years anniversary hall, conference room 1 and Taiwan National Chengchi University Administration hall, conference room 1, both presidents (SKKU Dong Ryeol Shin Taiwan National Chengchi University Ming Cheng, Kuo) were awarded honor Education Ph. D. degree, conferred by each other’s university.
The universities signed the cooperation agreement on 1975 and since then, 14 presidents (SKKU 8, National Chengchi Uni.6) were granted honor Ph. D. degrees. Considering that both presidents wiwill complete their terms this year and difficulties in visiting each other’s uuniversities dueto COVID-19, the degree conferment ceremony had to be held online.
National Chengchi University announced,“President Dong Ryeol, Shin, ever since his inauguration in 2019, was the first in Korea to set Student Success as the university’s core value and establish the Student Success Center to support students’ self-improvement and setting life goals. In addition, he established a ‘challenge semester’ to provide humanity-science combined lectures based on AI and data sciences and expanded internship & exchange programs to cultivate students’ challenging spirit.Thus, we grant him an honor Ph. D. degree for his contribution to the university’s development as a global prestigious university and a university that sets examples for Korea’s high-level education by focusing on student success, future value creation, and student achievement as school’s achievement”
SKKU replied, “President Ming Cheng, Kuo,has been continuously improving the quality of education and thus we conferred him honor Ph. D. degree acknowledging his contribution to the development of university to become the prestigious university that leads Taiwan by fostering local and global talents, increasing number of multidisciplinary students,enhancing international cooperation based on the vision to pursue academic excellence.”
President Dong Ryeol, Shin, said, “It is myhonor to award honor Ph. D. degree from prestigious National ChengchiUniversity in such meaningful year of university cooperation’s 58thanniversary. The meaning inherent in becoming the president and a professor toteach students is to fulfill my duty as an educator and this Ph. D. degree indeed has special meaning to me. Through this opportunity, I will put my extra effort to foster talented students, ruminating on the true meaning of education.”
