Professor Sung-wook Seo of School of Medicine published “Decision Mind”, which unravels the algorithms of decision-making to make a wiser choice

-What should we do to make a successful decision?

Sung-wook Seo, a professor of School of Medicine, and head of the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute at the Samsung Convergence Medical School, published "Decision Mind" (Geulhangari), an easy solution to the algorithms of artificial intelligence for rational decision-making in real life.

“Decision Mind” is a book that Professor Sung-wook Seo, a doctor and author who has been studying artificial intelligence for many years, analyzes human decision-making problems based on the algorithm of artificial intelligence and aims to lead us to make smart choices. The more logical and reasonable people think they are, the more they experience decision-making difficulties in real life because, in reality, it is always 'uncertain'. Accordingly, the author shows the scientific journey of finding a rational choice in a situation of uncertainty. In particular, we introduce a decision-making method that encompasses statistical techniques for estimating uncertainty and machine learning techniques that perform objective function optimization through data. Through this process, it makes the readers check and train his or her 'decision habits'.

This book introduces various methodologies for making rational decisions in uncertain situations. Utilization theory, a UCB theory that is advantageous when multiple searches are possible, causality theory to solve false associations or biases, a game theory that should be used when uncertain opponents exist, and Bayesian theories that measure uncertainty are expected to not only provide scientific evidence for everyday judgment but also serve as a guide to designing the right algorithm for students studying artificial intelligence.

Professor Sung-wook Seo, the author, said, "The younger generations these days are much more logical than we think they are. Therefore, they want much more explanation when they are doing something, and they demand more evidence. However, our reality is always uncertain and does not show solid evidence. If we find a clear basis for judgment in such an uncertain environment, we will face an obstacle in decision-making. This book both easily explains and also in depth of the methodologies of making rational decisions in uncertain situations in connection with daily life. It is difficult to reach the best choice in choice, but there is always the best choice. "I hope this book will give an opportunity for many people to think about the process of making the optimal choice," he said.
