The Third “Enlightening the World” Sungdae Myeongnyun Special Lecture


SKKU is inviting local and international scholars to diagnose issues of 2022 Korean society in a series of special lectures. The “Enlightening the World” Sungdae Myeongnyun lecture invites local and international scholars to predict and prepare for prospects and future strategies by sharing issues of different topics such as politics, economics, humanities, society. etc.

The purpose of this lecture is to spread the school philosophy of 인의예지 (Benevolence, Righteousness, Propriety, Wisdom), to produce premium lecture that cultivates the personality of students and leads education of values by inviting local and international scholars. And to enhance our students’ practical global competence with faculties of globally distinguished universities starting from this semester.

On April 12th , Professor Walter Scheidel (Stanford University) held a lecture with Professor Ja Myung, Choi (Department of History, SKKU) moderating on the topic: “History of Economic Inequality: Past, Present, and Future. In this upcoming third special lecture. And on April21st(Thu.), at 10 am, Professor David N. Weil from Brown University will lecture about the topic “Robots, Prosperity, and Inequality” with Professor Sung Hyun Kim (Dean of School of Economics) moderating. Professor Weil is renowned in economic development, growth, and income inequality and is well known for being the author of “Economic Growth” and “African Successes.”

The host of the special lecture, Dean SungHyun Kim, said, “The concerns about AI and robots will displace human labor andcause income inequality is increasing as technology develops. In this speciallecture, historical events that caused economic disparity in the past will beintroduced and then have a meaningful time by examining more fundamentalfactors: the advancement of technology that forms the labor market, humanmotivation, and social cohesiveness through economic and policyconsiderations.”


This special lecture is open both off/online (Real-time streaming) simultaneously; any faculty or student interested can access it through Zoom without prior application.
