Delegation of Senior Thai Officials Visits

 SKKU Material Simultaneous Design Industry Technology Base Center and Institute for Convergence


On June 16th, a delegation of 36 people from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, MHESI, and the Council of University President of Thailand, CUPT, and 120 people from the private sector visited SKKU Complex Material Simultaneous Design Industry Technology Base Center (lead by Professor Jonghwan Suhr, Department of Mechanical Engineering), Sungkyunkwan Institute for Convergence (director Professor Jae Do Nam, Chemical Engineering), the Cooperative Center for Research Facilities, and Samsung Library.


The purpose of the visit is to benchmark the industrial-academic cooperation model of SKKU Complex Material Simultaneous Design Base Center, which is conducting a pilot project for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and to learn the role of universities in contributing to economic growth and regional development, as well as the participation of the industry and public sector in co-producing platforms dedicated to innovative talent.


In addition, they discussed the role of universities in leading the value of future innovative growth, sharing experiences of collaborating with the industry sector to jointly practice embracing future technology for graduates, exploring the possibility of further cooperation with our school, and providing opportunities for future technology embracing experiences for graduates.


Professor Tanyanuparb Anantana (Chairman of Northern Science Park and Director of Science and Technology Park, Chiang Mai University), the representative of the visiting group, said, “It is very encouraging to see a system in which the superior technologies and talents possessed by universities contribute to economic growth and regional development in cooperation with industry. We hope to develop relationships and cooperate through continuous exchanges in the future.”


Professor Jonghwan Suhr emphasized the role of universities in “cultivating global convergence talents who can respond to rapidly changing society and values by establishing an innovative knowledge ecosystem” through the presentation of joint research and human resource development cooperation between universities and industries.


Moreover, professor Jae Do Nam said, “The talent required by the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution in the 21st century is a person who can solve creative problems based on convergent thinking skills across academic and industrial boundaries in a new environment.”
