Se Hyoung Jang
World Class Star in Ballroom Dance and DanceSport
Class of 2013, Ph.D. in Department of Dance
SeHyoung Jang is a world class star in Ballroom dance and the DanceSport field. He was World Professional Rising Star American Style Champion in 2008 with his wife Adele Jang. They were also the first representatives for Korea to the World Professional 10 (Ballroom & Latin) Dance Championships in 2009. The following year in 2010, they became United Kingdom (U.K.) Professional 10 Dance Champions. In 2011, amazingly they became British Professional Classical (Ballroom) Show Dance Champions and became representatives for Great Britain to the world championships in three categories: Professional 10 Dance, Latin Show Dance, and Ballroom Show Dance, the only couple in England to achieve this. His wife and partner Adele Jang is a national representative for England. The two professional dancers met in New York when SeHyoung was studying for a Master's degree program in Dance Education at NYU in 2005. They are the only couple who dance 10 International Styles and 9 American Style dances and have been hailed as "nineteen (19) dance specialists."
Mr. Jang earned a doctorate degree in Dance last February at SKKU, and it is the first time an active professional Ballroom dancer and DanceSport competitor acquired the doctoral degree in Dance. His dissertation, 'Ballroom Dance and DanceSport Education' is written in the English language, for the first time in Korea, based on the Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) of Rudolph Laban, who is a dance artist, movement theorist, and one of the notable Modern dance pioneers. In his dissertation, Mr. Jang developed the evolutionary notation of dance in terms of the Duo Effort and Duo Shape that can be applied to dance, sports, recreation, acting, play and many other fields. His dissertation will be used as a text book in Universities and studio settings. Mr. Jang and his wife Adele will be lecturing Ballroom dance based on his dissertation during the International Dance Teacher Association's congress in July, 2013 in London. Mr. Jang and Adele wish to be referred to as "artistic performers and educators who love to dance" rather than just being competitive dancers.
