SKKU & Tsinghua University Join Hands for Smart City

On December 18 there was a signing ceremony for the establishment of a joint research center between Korea and China for a smart city held at the Lotte Hotel Seoul in Sogong-dong. The President of Sungkwunkwan University (SKKU) Chung Kyu Sang, Vice-President of Tsinghua University Xue Qikun, and many Korean and Chinese smart city experts attended the signing ceremony.

This is the first time a joint research center has been established between a Korean university and Tsinghua University. It is expected to play a key role in the advancement of Korean and Chinese smart city technology. After the contract for the establishment of the Korea-China Smart City Joint Research Center, SKKU and Tsinghua University will engage in a collaborative project for smart city technology development. The research results will be applied to China Dongguan City on a trial basis.

The research of the joint center in Korea would be mainly led by Donyun Kim, professor of SKKU and head of the smart green city lab. It is expected that the fusion and convergence of smart city technology and information and communications technology (ITC) will lead the construction industry to higher value-added business and help solve urban problems.
