Oxford Visited SKKU for Active Research Collaboration

Dr. Ian Walmsely, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Research and Innovation at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom, visited Sungkyunkwan University on January 22nd.

The visit began with a meeting with the Executive Vice President of Sungkyunkwan University at the Natural Sciences Campus. Prof. Walmsley had a tour of the N center and then visited Sungkyunkwan's old campus at the Humanities and Social Science Campus. After, he met SKKU's President Chung, Kyu Sang and discussed possible future opportunities for collaboration between the two universities.

Since Prof. Walmsely is responsible for the oversight of Oxford's research and policies, research collaboration was discussed primarily along with concrete implementation plans including graduate student exchange, a short-term student lab internship program, and a summer exchange program.

President Chung said that he hoped this visit will trigger active research collaboration with Oxford and lead to actual academic exchange including student exchange, joint curriculums, and dual degree programs.

The University of Oxford is a prestigious institution and the oldest English-speaking university in the world. It has ranked 2nd and 6th in Times Higher Education and QS World University Rankings, respectfully. It has also produced 26 Nobel Prize winners, 30 world leaders including Bill Clinton and Aung San Suu Kyi, and 26 British Prime Ministers including Tony Blair and David Cameron.
