Brown University - SKKU 1st Global Government Administration Experience Program' Opened

Last June, Brown University, one of the top universities in the Ivy League, and SKKU's Graduate School of Governance made an agreement for a joint education program where graduate students studying Public Administration at Brown University can take some courses at SKKU. The program will last for three years until 2018.

Eight students from Brown visited Korea from Aug. 19th to Aug. 30th to participate in the '1st Global Government Administration Experience Program'. This joint program was organized by the Watson Institute of International & Public Affairs of Brown University and SKKU's Graduate School of Governance.

The 'Global Government Administration Experience' is one of the global programs that the Watson Institute of International & Public Affairs of Brown University offers during the summer. This year, twenty students joined the program. Eight students chose to come to Korea, while others went to Sweden and Cambodia. Students who participated in the program received 3 credits.

Students from Brown University took courses on the Korean Economy and Diplomatic Policies. They also went on field trips to the National Assembly and City Hall to feel the atmosphere of the Korean government.

Many students appreciated this great opportunity to see the economics, culture, and values of Korea. The head of the program, Prof. Min Hyo Cho from SKKU's Graduate School of Governance said, "We will expand our collaborations with Brown University further through dual degree programs, exchange of faculty, and more".

The President of SKKU also said, "SKKU is striving to become a global representative of Korean Universities by having collaborations and competition with top international universities."

Dr. Shankar Prasad, Assistant Provost for Global Engagement and Strategic Initiatives of Brown University, visited SKKU on Aug. 29th (Mon). He had a meeting with the president, SKKU Graduate School of Governance, and SKK GSB to discuss possible ways to cooperate between the two universities.

At the meeting, the two universities agreed on initiating dual degree programs in the Graduate School of Governance, student exchange in SKK GSB, and a summer internship program. Also, they discussed collaborations in engineering, especially the Bioengineering field, which SKKU and Brown University are highly focused on.
