The third annual Korea-China Academic Forum between Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) and Peking University (PKU) was successfully held at Peking University from Sep 7th to Sep 8th. At the forum, about 50 professors from two universities including the deans of the School of Law (Prof. Bong Chul CHOI), College of Information and Communication Engineering (Prof. Byung Woo JEON), and Graduate School of China (Prof. Yong June KIM) participated, and broadened exchange in the fields of Law, Business, and Information/Communication.
In the law session, 15 professors participated and shared opinions under the main the theme 'Marine Silk Road and Cooperation of Law in Korea & China'. Bong Chul CHOI, the dean of the School of Law explained, "It was a meaningful time finding similarities and differences of opinions on recent issues of law between two countries. All the subjects were new and thoughtful." The session was supported by the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences.
Delegates in the Business field talked about 'Recent Issues in Business Administration of Korea & China from the Comparison of O2O Models'. Yong June KIM, the dean of the Graduate School of China said, "It was a precious session where we compared typical O2O models such as Alibaba and Bae Dal Min Jok (Mobile Food Delivery Company). Also, I was excited to have discussions with many professors in marketing and finance."
The College of Information and Communication Engineering dealt with 4 subjects: VLSI Systems, Optics and Waves, Computer Vision, and Information Systems and Networks. This meeting could be considered a model for industrial collaboration since many researchers from the Samsung Beijing branch also participated. The dean of the college, Byung Woo JEON, stated, "It was interesting to see how the points of view can be varied depending on the social backgrounds of the researchers even though they are studying the same subject."
SKKU President Kyu Sang CHUNG assessed the meeting as a meaningful event, sharing recent academic issues and reconfirming various possibilities for cooperation, such as joint research.
Since 2014, the SKKU-PKU Forum has been held every year between Seoul and Beijing. In 2017, the fourth SKKU-PKU Forum will be hosted by SKKU. Also, the presidents of the two universities agreed to organize a 2018 SKKU-PKU Forum at Peking University to celebrate the 120th Anniversary of its foundation.
