SUNGKYUNKWAN UNIVERSITY (SKKU), SEOUL, KOREA

Sungkyunkwan University ranked 100^th in the QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) World University Rankings this year, rising from 108^th last year. It has risen 79 spots over the last 6 years from 179^th. SKKU scored 88.3 points in Faculty Student (85.1 points last year), 43.5 points in Citations per Faculty (37.9 points last year), and 34 points in International Students (27.6 points last year), showing a steady upward trend in the overall evaluation index.

Five Korean universities were listed in the world's top 100 in this year's QS World University Rankings. Seoul National University ranks 36^th, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology 40^th, Pohang University of Science and Technology 83^rd, Korea University 86^th, and Sungkyunkwan University 100^th. Sungkyunkwan is a new entrant by rising eight notches from last year. Fifteen Korean universities are in the top 400, with Hanyang University moving up four notches to 151^st and Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology 315^th.

Furthermore, this year's achievement is mainly accredited to concentrated investments made over the last 20 years in the research sector, where we have strengthened industry-university collaboration with Samsung and recruited many highly-skilled professors in science and engineering. We will spare no effort to become a world-class university. We will strive to open a new era of SKKU as a global leading university together with students, faculty, and alumni as well."

SKKU is implementing creative convergence education, such as multidisciplinary approaches and specialized academic-industrial cooperative education, that will lead the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. In particular, SKKU is expanding academic-industrial courses of study, such as convergent foundation projects, fusion capstone design, and integrated team field training in order to connect students' creative business ideas to enterprises. Also, in cooperation with small businesses, SKKU has created excellent results by releasing about 20 commercialized products and submitting more than 30 patent proposals every year.
