Sungkyunkwan University conferred an honorary doctorate degree on Dr. Subra Suresh, the president of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. President Subra Suresh has a great reputation as an engineer, scientist, educator, and leader, and he has also made a huge contribution to academics, industry, government, and public institutions through his deep and varied experience. Beyond these achievements, he is doing his best as president to ensure NTU becomes a great leading university that actively contributes to the development of human society.
"I am sure that this honorary doctoral degree conferment to President Suresh is a great honor for our university and a huge source of pride that will remain forever in our university's history. Through this special bond, I hope our two universities will foster global talents through close exchange cooperation and develop together as true partners who lead the era of advanced civilization in the future," said Chung Kyu-sang, President of SKKU.
SKKU and NTU plan to run a joint doctoral degree program in the future. Students who are selected for this program are required to enroll in both schools and have two academic advisors, one for each school, to study and conduct research. The school also supports tuition and living expenses. "We are expanding our partnerships with strong universities around the world," said President Suresh, "There is a prospect that the university will disappear, but strong universities will survive and play a bigger role."
