SKKU was ranked the second university in the nation for the 2018 Global PhD Fellowship (GPF) project sponsored by the government and secured a total of 3.3 billion KRW in government support grants. In addition, the Undergraduate Research Program (URP) has been selected as the top in the nation for five years in a row.
The GPF project is supported by the Ministry of Education to foster world-class doctoral researchers. It provides 30 million KRW per graduate student to cover their tuition, living expenses, and academic activities throughout their combined master's-doctorate degree studies (5 years) and doctoral courses (3 years).
The result of the program is very meaningful because it is an indicator of the research excellence of graduate schools and is being used to motivate undergraduate students to enter graduate school.
On September 4th (Tue) at the Natural Science Campus and on September 6th (Thursday) at the Humanities and Social Science Campus, the main representatives including the president of SKKU, students, and faculty members participating in the project gathered together to celebrate the selection of the project and to exchange information about research and academics.
"Through the GPF/URP project's excellent performance, opportunities to enter our graduate school have been expanded while our university's status has grown. I would like to encourage students to devote themselves to creative and challenging research projects and I hope they produce world-class research results," said President Chung.
