On October 23rd, the 10th Central Asia Sungkyun Writing Contest was held at the grand hall of the Grand Mir Hotel in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. About 50 students from 21 universities in four Central Asian countries including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan competed to test their Korean writing proficiency.
Burber-Hodja Yves Sarvar, the Vice Minister of Public Education of Uzbekistan visited the contest to encourage the students and released the competition' writing topic, which was "WE".
Student Nazarova MADINA who graduated from Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies won the gold prize. Her writing about the sense of community and Korea's situation as a divided nation received great acclaim from the judges. "I want to be a bridge between Uzbekistan and Korea," said Nazarova.
The silver and bronze medals were awarded by Shin NADEZHDA from Kazakh University of International Relations and World Languages and Rabbimov BEKHZOD from Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages, respectively.
Hong Duk KIM, Vice-Chair of Erae CS who has been sponsoring the event for the past seven years attended to encourage students. "I see that the Sungkyun Writing Contest has significantly increased students' interest in Korea and Hangul. It is my honor to participate in the 10th contest," said Mr. Kim. Erae CS has provided about 150 million KRW in sponsorship funding to the Sungkyun Writing Contest since the 2nd competition.
