Sungkyunkwan University conferred an honorary doctorate in law on Dr. Nikolay M. Kropachev, the Rector of Saint Petersburg State University, on Friday, November 9th at 10:30 AM.
Dr. Kropachev has shown outstanding leadership since becoming rector of Saint Petersburg State University in 2009. Also, he has served as the president of the Association of Russian Leading Universities, Chairman of the Northwestern Federal University President's Committee, and member of the Presidential Committee to Support New Russian Scientists and Leading Universities and has contributed to the development of higher education.
He is regarded as a first class full state counselor in the region of St. Petersburg due to his steady contributions as a lawyer in the community. In 1998, he opened the first legal clinic for the socially underprivileged in Russia and provided free legal advice. After that, he served as a chairman of the St. Petersburg Bar Association and a member of the Constitutional Court of Saint Petersburg.
Since 2010, he has been working as a coordinator on the Russian side of Korea-Russia dialogue and leading the promotion of exchange and cooperation between Korea and Russia. He also contributed to the development of Korean Studies in the west, including setting up a bronze statue of PARK Kyung Ri at the University of Saint Petersburg and opening a lecture on the subject of "Land".
"Through strong exchange activities and joint research, the two universities are expected to continue to develop together as global leading universities that will further enhance the value of universities in the era of civilization and historical transitions triggered by the Fourth Industrial Revolution," said an SKKU official.
