Sungkyunkwan University's "Chungrang" club will be holding the "2019 Gohanora" at 5:30 PM on September 21st.
The Gohanora is an annual event organized by the student oriented Chungrang club. It is a modern reenactment of Confucian scholars appealing to the king during the Joseon dynasty. In this year's event about 290 students will wear traditional Confucian costumes and parade around the Jongno area. At the final destination of the parade, students will perform a flash mob wishing for a successful appeal to the king. At 6 PM, the director of the National Education Training Institute will join the "Bidap" ritual, which means "responding to the appeal".
The leader of the Confucian students, "sodoo", was selected after an "appealing contest". The theme of the contest was "Education Policies in Preparation for the 4th Industrial Revolution". The sodoo will make an appeal to the director of the National Education Training Institute on behalf of other students and the director will reply to the appeal.
There are three processes in the Gohanora. First, the event begins with "Daeeuisa". Second, students parade from Sungkyunkwan to Gwanghwamun Square. Third, the Bidap ritual between the student and the director of the National Education Training Institute. The event will end after students perform an ensemble.
Student Jiwoon Jung, the leader of Chungrang said, the 2019 Gohanora is a unique festival of Sungkyunkwan University . We wish to inherit the Confucian tradition and create a new university culture based on it."
