SKKU held the "2019 Eurasia Sungkyun Korean Writing Contest" on September 6th at the Lotte City Hotel in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
SKKU has been hosting the Korean Writing Contest to spread the excellence and unique value of the Korean language system "hangul" over the past 10 years. This contest is well-known for being the gateway to study in Korea.
The participants included 59 students from 24 universities in 8 different countries (Uzbekistan, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Austria, Karakalpakstan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkey) who competed with their Korean writing skills.
The chairman of the contest said, "There is a verse in BTS's song that goes 'I want something stronger'. I believe all of you improved while preparing for this contest. I hope everyone unfolds their talents today."
The topic of the writing contest was "If". Prof. Hyun Soon PARK, the Vice President of International Affairs said, "We have chosen this topic because it can lead to the creation of many stories. We are looking to see creativity and originality in the students' writing."
The 1st prize went to a student named Shahnoza from Uzbekistan. The foreman of the jury said, "The student wrote a story relevant to the topic with a logical flow. The student made use of metaphors and has exhibited excellent Korean skills."
The top 3 winners of the contest are exempted from 2 years of tuition fees at Sungkyunkwan University when they apply for graduate programs. They also receive a Samsung Tablet PC and Galaxy watch as prizes.
A special lecture by the previous winner of the Korean writing contest, a student named Anbar (currently enrolled in SKKU Graduate school of Political Science), was made the day before the event.
