Recently, 41 domestic researchers were selected as the world's Highly Cited Researchers in 2019, published by Clarivate Analytics (formerly Thomson Reuters). They are from 18 domestic universities. The top five were SNU (9), UNIST (6), Korea University (4), KAIST (3), and Sungkyunkwan University (3).
According to HCR 2019, 41 domestic university researchers were selected from 45 fields. This year, Korean university researchers ranked 19th in the world.
Clarivate Analytics' Highly Cited Researchers (HCR) are selected based on the top 1% of cited papers in each field. The purpose of this study is to identify researchers that make a high impact worldwide and to expand the boundaries of knowledge and innovate by sharing results.
Cross-field, a criterion formed last year, has been established to identify researchers influential in many fields, but whose citation counts in a single field are less than the top 1%. For example, an immunologist can be both a biochemist and a molecular biologist, and a chemist can also be classified as a material scientist or engineer. In other words, the selection criteria were established to meet the relevance of the age of convergence science, going beyond the traditional category that has been artificially established.
From Sungkyunkwan University, Professors Nam Gyu Park, Ahn. Myung Ju, Lee Young Hee were selected this year. The professors have all been selected from cross-fields.
