Jinyoung Yoo, a Ph.D. student at SKKU's Department of Economics (supervisor: Doojin Ryu) received the Paper of Excellence Award at the 2020 Summer Conference held by the Korea Money & Finance Association.
In the paper (Title: Information Trades of Options Around Holidays), Jinyoung Yoo analyzed financial big data as a market microstructure model and investigated the various aspects of the behavior of high-frequency information trades around the holidays in derivative markets.
Jinyoung Yoo entered the Department of Economics at SKKU after graduating from international schools in Australia and Beijing. In order to concentrate on his studies without interruption, he applied for combined undergraduate-master's and master's-Ph.D. degrees. He is currently in his second year of Ph.D. program.
Even though he is still in his degree program, he has published a total seven SSCI academic papers so far, including Finance Research Letters (top 8% of the JCR), and Emerging Markets Review (top 11% of the Business-Finance and the top 15% of Economics). More of his papers are currently being reviewed in prestigious journals.
Jinyoung said, "The process of writing a paper requires a lot of effort and is difficult, but the experience of exploring new research topics as well as writing papers and publishing them in academic journals is valuable. I think I am very lucky to be able to focus on research with a supervisor, learn how to write theses, and become a scholar."
He also expressed his ambition as a scholar, "I would like to challenge myself to be hired by a prestigious overseas university with SKKU's undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees."
