The Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) School of Pharmacy, founded in 1953 has, during the past 60 years, developed into a world-class center of research and teaching. By assimilating different disciplines, it has encouraged globalized and creative pharmaceutical research, allowing it to leap ahead of its competitors and train graduates who are globally recognized scientists. The School, with 21 dedicated faculty members, and an outstanding research infrastructure has launched several innovations.
The School's research excellence has been recognized by the Korean government. Through research programs from the Ministry of Education Science and Technology, World Class University project, Brain Korea 21 Project, Medical Research Center, National Research Laboratory and the 'Development of DDS Platform Technologies for Super-Generic' -project, the School received more than 310 billion won in research funding. The School also has an outstanding Science Citation Index (SCI) publication record, with a score of 616 (5.9 per professor) during the past 5 years. This score compares favorably to the top-ranked US pharmacy school at the University of California at San Francisco, which scored 559 (2.6 per professor). Thus the SKKU School of Phar-macy's research capabilities are increasingly being recognized internationally.
