In a further step to intensify their collaboration, Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) and Samsung Medison have launched a new graduate school to educate specialists in the medical equipment sector. The new Graduate School of Health Science and Technology, combines the ex-perience of two other SKKU and Samsung Medison-affiliated units: the Samsung Advan-ced Institute for Health Science & Technology (SAIHST) and the Department of Health Science and Technology (DHST). Officially launched in 2011, DHST has already attracted 40 students.
The new graduate school will follow the multidisciplinary and corporate-university collaboration models that are the hallmark of SKKU's recent launching of institutes in other areas such as nanotechnology and smart design. The graduate school will design its own curriculum in collaboration with Samsung Medison, allowing students majoring in medical engineering and natural sciences to learn targeted knowledge and gain specific experiences relevant to medical equipment research, design and engineering. Although its launching partner is Samsung Medison, the Graduate School also aims to work with other stakeholders to improve its curriculum.
Samsung Medison was established as Medison in 1985, and has grown into a company that specializes in ultrasound imaging equipment. After its merger with Samsung Electronics in 2011, the company was renamed Samsung Medison, and has become better able to compete with other world class companies in the world.
