Sungkyunkwan University's Law School, Institute of Legal Studies invited Prof. William Swadling of Brasenose College, University of Oxford, UK to hold a lecture on May 11th and an academic seminar on May 12th, with the support of the Research & Business Foundation and the CAMPUS Asia Program.
Prof. Kwon Chul of the Law School was in charge of this event, which was held over two days. The lecture on May 11th was attended by interested students, including master's degree, PhD, JD, and Global Leader undergraduate students as well as students participating in the CAMPUS Asia Program. The lecture and academic seminar were held with the themes "An Introduction to the English Law of Restitution" and "Trusts for Civil Lawyers-Myths and Realities", respectively.
Prof. William Swadling is a Senior Law Fellow at Oxford University (Brasenose College), an academic associate at One Essex Court (Chambers of Lord Grabiner QC), an elected member of the American Law Institute, and an academic member of the Chancery Bar Association. He currently chairs the faculty's teaching groups in Trusts, Restitution, Personal Property, etc. at Oxford University, and he regularly lectures at the University of Hong Kong and the University of Melbourne.
Before coming to Oxford, he has held positions at various other universities in the UK, including University College London and Trinity College, Cambridge. He has also held visiting professorships at the University of Hamburg, the National University of Singapore, and the University of Paris II (Pantheon-Assas). Prof. Swadling, who is quite interested in the intersection between trusts and restitution, is the founding editor of the Restitution Law Review and an editor of Trust Law International. In addition, he is the editor of various books, including "The Quistclose Trust: Critical Essays", and he wrote the section entitled "Property" in Burrows (ed), English Private Law (3rd ed, 2013).
