Out of 1,032 universities, SKKU was ranked 33rd in the world, 14th in Asia, and 2nd in Korea in the field of chemistry in U.S. News & World Report's "Best Global Universities by Subject Area".

U.S. News and World Report's subject rankings are made based on the number of thesis publications/citations and global reputation. It uses one of the world's most renowned databases, "Web of Science" (Clarivate Analytics), to count the number of thesis publications/citations.

UC Berkeley and Nanyang Technological University were named the top universities in the world in chemistry.
