The JoongAng Daily newspaper evaluated the performance of the 57 comprehensive universities in Korea and SKKU was ranked second in the Korean University Rankings behind Seoul National University, making it the number one comprehensive university in the nation. Hanyang University placed in 3rd and Korea University and Yonsei University (Seoul) both came in 4th.
This year, SKKU received a great deal of recognition, mainly for its globalization index. The ratio of foreign students (14.8%) was the highest among all the universities. Also, the ratio of international students who have qualified in Korean or English proficiency tests to be able to take classes was 78%. The university has also raised the ratio of foreign language courses on campus to 41%, and foreign undergraduates can receive a scholarship if their grade point average is 3.0 (out of 4.5) or more.
Student exchange is also very active; 1,235 students went abroad last year. Dr. Ja Choon KOO, Vice President of International Affairs said, "We have exchange agreements with 940 universities in 76 countries, and about 100 graduates each year are receiving dual degrees with institutions abroad."
