Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) International Summer Semester (ISS) started on June 26 with the theme of “Mapping the Future for Shared Prosperity.”

This year is the 7th ISS, with 1,682 students participating from 68 universities across 27 countries. The number of students is rapidly increasing not only because SKKU is Asia’s oldest university but also because it provides a tailored-made education program based on the latest global issues, consisting of outstanding lectures by distinguished scholars such as Prof. Charles Hampden-Turner from the University of Cambridge, Prof. Joseph Juhasz from Colorado University and Prof. Edward Romar from the University of Massachusetts.

The ISS offers 44 courses taught by 31 professors (20 international visiting faculty) and students can earn up to 6 credits. There are also a variety of cultural activities including tours of the old Sungkyunkwan campus, royal palaces, and the Korean Folk Village, shopping on Insa-dong Road, a special on-campus performance of Nanta, a Korean Food Festival, a Korean Film Festival, a taekwondo demonstration, a traditional Korean play, and the Global Forum.

“The SKKU ISS program became one of the most popular international summer programs in Korea due to our high-quality education contents and great faculty members as well as the influence of Hallyu (the Korean wave),” said Prof. Suke Kyu Lee, Vice President of International Affairs.
