Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) offers two main inbound programs for international students: the Exchange Student Program and the Visiting Student Program. These programs are operated on a semester-based academic calendar.
1. Exchange Student Program

The Exchange Student Program is open to students from SKKU's partner universities. It provides participants with an academically enriching experience, as well as opportunities to explore Korea’s unique history and culture.
Eligibility
- Must be enrolled in one of SKKU’s international partner universities
- Must have completed at least one academic year at their home institution at the time of application
- Must be officially nominated by their home university to receive authentication code needed for the application process.
- Nomination Deadlines:
Spring Semester: October 15
Fall Semester: April 15
Visa
Exchange students must obtain a D-2-6 visa.
2. Visiting Student Program
Overview
The Visiting Student Program welcomes outstanding students from non-partner universities. Participants will be able to study alongside Korean and international students while enjoying the rich academic and cultural environment of SKKU.
Eligibility
- Must be enrolled in a university level-higher education institution
- Must have completed at least one academic year at the time of application
- No nomination is required. Interested students should email SKKU OIR(incoming@skku.edu) during the application period to receive authentication code for the application.
Visa
Visiting students must obtain a D-2-8 visa.
The following information applies to both exchange and visiting students.
Alien Registration Card (ARC)
All international students staying in Korea for over 90 days must apply for an Alien Registration Card (ARC).
- SKKU provides group registration each semester.
- ARC processing takes about 45 days.
- Students must not leave Korea without receiving their ARC
- We recommend planning international travel after midterm exams.
National Health Insurance (NHIS)
- Students with a D-2 visa are automatically enrolled in Korea’s National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) once they receive their ARC.
- Monthly fee: approx. USD 60 (automatically billed)
- Not all treatments are covered by NHIS — we highly recommend purchasing private insurance as well.

Orientation
Orientation sessions are held a few days before the semester begins. The exact date and venue will be shared via the factsheet each semester.
HI-Club (GSN HI-Club)
The Global Student Network Help & Information Club, known as HI-Club, is a student group supported by OIR. They help exchange and visiting students adjust to life at SKKU by organizing cultural events and providing student support.
Buddy Program – SG MAPLE
SG MAPLE (SKKU Global Mentoring and Assisting People) is a buddy program co-managed by OIR and HI-Club. It matches international students with SKKU students for peer support and cultural exchange.
