Korean students often take on English names for their studies, so why shouldn't it go the other way around?

SKKU students will hold a Korean name-giving event, presenting Korean names to 20 international students. The event is to be held at 12:20 on October 8 at the International Hall.

This event started as an idea by Han Ji-won (Global Economics Major) who found out the glaring interest her international friends had for Korean names. After hearing this, a university official thought that it could be a meaningful gift for international students and organized this event.

Students will be given the names of real SKKU students who have authentic Korean names. Twenty names such as Ba-run, Pul-ip, and Han-del were picked for the event where the students will be presented with their newly given name and a seal bearing the name.

“We hope that the students appreciate the aesthetic beauty of authentic Korean names and in turn grow fonder of Korea,” said the university official.
