SKKU Established Agreement for R&E with Gyeonggi Science High School for the Gifted 2015.12.10

The signing ceremony, for establishing the system to support programs of Gyeonggi Science High School for the Gifted(GSHS) and R&E(Research and Education), was held on Nov. 30, 2015 at the Office of the Executive Vice President of the Natural Sciences Campus, with Executive Vice President YOO Jibeom,  Dean of the College of Science KWON Young-Uk, Principal of GSHS PARK Wan-kyu, Director of Scientific Talents of GSHS  and other R&E steering committee members.

 

This agreement was based on the 2009 ‘memorandum of understanding regarding GSHS-SKKU’s educational support for future scientists’ with an aim to help much more outstanding scientific students to participate in the R&E program provided by SKKU, through s steering committee made up of both schools. The two schools  agreed to closely cooperate for the successful and continuous operation of the R&E program, and as the SKKU’s side steering committee members, College of Science Prof. SONG Changsik, College of Engineering Prof. NOH Sand-do, College of Information and Communication Engineering Prof. HAN Tae-hee have joined as  representatives for the respective fields of study.

 

With this agreement, the R&E program is expected to run more systematically than ever before. Also, the participating students are expected to be provided with a diverse range of opportunities to perform high quality research by matching them with optimal researcher and laboratory deeply relating to field of study they hope to research in.

 

The goal of the program run by GSHS is to have GHSH students(Sophomore) join and conduct research for 10 months at a higher education institution or research center, and retain more interest in science as well as an enhanced ability in research that will cultivate them to become prominent future scientists. In 2015 23 faculty(lab) were involved in the program, and is expected to have more than 40 labs participate for 2016.
