SKKU President Chung Kyun Sang visits Israel and the Middle East region 2015.12.16

For 7 days from Dec. 6 to Dec. 12, a delegation consisting of  President Chung, Kyu Sang, Executive Vice President Yoo, Ji Beom, and Vice President of International Affairs, related professors and administrative personnel from Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) visited the prestigious universities in Israel and Turkey, and returned with substantial achievements in strengthening mutual relations, discussing the establishment of, especially in industry-university collaborations, start-ups and exchanging research networks while making exchange agreements.

 

Especially, they shared various operational case examples of programs for student start-ups, with the major prestigious universities of Israel, Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Technion-Israel Institute of Technology(Technion IIT), and  discussed in depth on faculty research and student exchanges with major universities in Bulgaria and Turkey. 

 

As an academic exchange agreement was concluded with Israel’s Hebrew University of Jerusalem, an exchange cooperation on east Asian Studies and a joint academic forum on international relation of China and Asia-pacific region was also agreed upon. while proposals were mutually made on the sharing of managing expertise and examples in start-up programs, and the running of a SKKU-Hebrew joint student start-up team.

 

At Technion-IIT located at Haifa, Israel, practical entrepreneurship(start-up) education, creation of ecosystem for start-ups, research cooperation in the field of water resource(water conversion) were discussed in depth, while the Accelerator program of Samsung Electronics research institute in Tel Aviv, Weizmann Institute of Science technical commercialization were benchmarked and future cooperation plans were discussed.

 

In Sofia University in Bulgaria expanding the exchange cooperation in the field of East Asian Study and Korean study, and reinforcing the cooperation of EU Erasmus+ and Horizon 2020 program, were agreed upon.

 

It was agreed upon that the promotion of joint research cooperation in the field of Information Communication, Advanced Material, Chemical Engineering and Business Management with Koc University, the prestigious and research-centered private university in Istanbul, Turkey, was to be done through academic exchange agreements, while, with Bogazici University, another prestigious public university, cooperations is to be made in ICT on a department level, and ISS professors recruitment/student exchange and start-up cooperation is to commence. Furthermore, cooperation in the field of Arts and Design with Kadir Has University located in the historical area of Istanbul was concluded.

 

Through academic agreements with Ankara university located in Ankara, capital city of Turkey, exchange were strengthened by making it a strategic partner university in the Middle East region, while agreement was made to go forward with cooperations in the field of Law and East Asian Studies. Also with Bilkent University, which is very strong in research, located in the city of Ankara, ISS students exchange and cooperation in the field of Bio and Nano were agreed to be carried out actively.
